 জ্যামিতি কি? What is Geometry?

জ্যামিতি হলো গণিতের এমন একটি শাখা যেখানে আকার, আকৃতি, পরিমাপ ও স্থানের ধর্ম নিয়ে আলোচনা করা হয়। (Geometry is a branch of mathematics that deals with shape, size, measurement and properties of space.) জ্যামিতি শব্দটি এসেছে গ্রিক শব্দ Geo মানে ভূমি ও metron মানে পরিমাপ থেকে। (The word Geometry comes from Greek words Geo meaning earth and metron meaning measurement.) এর জনক হলেন ইউক্লিড। (Its father is Euclid.)

জ্যামিতি শিখতে এই ৫ টা না জানলেই নয়।

বিন্দু - Point, রেখা - Line, রেখাংশ - Line Segment, বাহু - Arm / Side

ও  কোণ - Angle

জ্যামিতি কত প্রকার ও কি কি? How many types of Geometry?

স্কুল লেভেলে জ্যামিতি প্রধানত ২ প্রকার। (At school level, Geometry is mainly of 2 types.)

১. সমতল জ্যামিতি। (Plane Geometry.) যে জ্যামিতিতে সমতলের উপর অবস্থিত বিন্দু, রেখা ও কোণ নিয়ে আলোচনা হয়। (In which points, lines and angles lying on a plane are discussed.)

যেমন -For example- 

ত্রিভুজ - Triangle

চতুর্ভুজ - Quadrilateral

বৃত্ত - Circle

২. ঘন জ্যামিতি। (Solid Geometry.) যে জ্যামিতিতে ত্রিমাত্রিক বস্তু নিয়ে আলোচনা হয়। (In which three-dimensional objects are discussed.)

যেমন - ঘনক, গোলক, সিলিন্ডার। (For example - Cube, Sphere, Cylinder.)

উচ্চতর লেভেলে আরো ৩ প্রকার আছে। (At higher level there are 3 more types.)

1. ইউক্লিডীয় জ্যামিতি। (Euclidean Geometry.)  ইউক্লিডের স্বীকার্যের উপর ভিত্তি করে গঠিত। (Based on Euclid's axioms.)

2. অ-ইউক্লিডীয় জ্যামিতি। (Non-Euclidean Geometry.) যেখানে সমান্তরাল স্বীকার্য মানে না। (Where parallel postulate is not followed.)

3. বিশ্লেষণী জ্যামিতি। (Analytical Geometry.) যেখানে বীজগণিত দিয়ে জ্যামিতি সমাধান করা হয়। (Where geometry is solved by algebra.)
